British Council International School Award success for

Ysgol Gymraeg Gwenllian

Ysgol Gymraeg Gwenllian in Kidwelly has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.

The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life work in today’s world.

Ysgol Gymraeg Gwenllian’s international work includes

- the ‘Stepping out to Lesotho’ challenge as part of the Walk the Global Walk project.

- horticultural activities with our partner school in Lesotho.

- a rugby session to introduce a new sport to the children of our partner school in Lesotho.

- work with our partnered school in St-Jacut-de-la-Mer.

On hearing the news that Ysgol Gymraeg Gwenllian had received the award, Mr Adam Barnett, Headteacher, said: ‘We are extremely proud to have been given this award following the hard work of our pupils and staff. Mrs Nicole Harries has worked diligently to lead this project, creating links, opportunities and positive outcomes for all our pupils. We always strive for excellence in all aspects of school life and to be recognized by the British Council for the International School Award is a real honour.

The International School Award is a chance for schools to be recognised for their important work bringing the world into their classrooms. This is especially commendable when schools have been deeply affected by the global pandemic. By embedding an international dimension in children’s education, these schools are preparing their students for successful lives in the UK or further afield, empowering them to be global citizens, and are creating vital opportunities in an increasingly global economy.’

This is a worldwide award with schools in countries such as India, Egypt, Lebanon, Nigeria, and Pakistan also being recognized.

Gwobr Ysgolion Rhyngwladol Y Cyngor Prydeinig I Ysgol Gymraeg Gwenllian

Mae Ysgol Gymraeg Gwenllian wedi ennill Gwobr Ysgolion Rhyngwladol i gydnabod ei waith o ddod a’r byd mewn i’r ystafell dosbarth.

Mae'r Wobr Ysgolion Rhyngwladol yn anrhydedd enfawr i ysgolion sy'n gwneud gwaith rhagorol mewn addysg ryngwladol, er enghraifft drwy feithrin cysylltiadau ag ysgolion partner dramor. Mae meithrin dimensiwn rhyngwladol yn y cwricwlwm wrth wraidd gwaith y British Council gydag ysgolion, a'r nod yw sicrhau bod pobl ifanc yn magu'r ddealltwriaeth ddiwylliannol a'r sgiliau sydd eu hangen arnynt i fyw a gweithio fel dinasyddion byd-eang.

Yn fras, mae Gwaith yr Ysgol yn cynnwys…

- her ‘Camu allan i Lesotho’ fel rhan o’r prosiect Cerdded y Daith Gerdded Fyd-eang.

- cwblhau gweithgareddau garddwriaethol trwy blannu pys a phlanhigion gyda'n hysgol bartner yn Lesotho.

- sesiwn rygbi ar gyfer plant ein hysgol bartner yn Lesotho.

- Gwaith yr ysgol gydag ysgol yn St-Jacut-de-la-Mer.

Ar ol clywed y newyddion bod yr Ysgol wedi derbyn y wobr arbennig, eglurodd Mr Adam Barnett, Pennaeth Ysgol Gymraeg Gwenllian, ‘Rydym yn hynod o falch i dderbyn y wobr hon ar ol Gwaith caled y disgyblion a’r staff. Mae Mrs Nicole Harries wedi gweithio’n ddiwyd i arwain y prosiect hwn trwy greu cysylltiadau, cyfleoedd a chanlyniadau cadarnhaol i’r holl ddisgyblion. Rydym yn anelu at ragoriaeth ym mhob agwedd o fywyd ysgol ac mae cael ein hadnabod gan y Cyngor Prydeinig yn fraint enfawr.
